Warren Beatty stars in, directs, produces, and helped write this biting political comedy. Beatty inhabits the monster-sized role of California Senator Jay Bulworth, a chronically depressed, traditionally smarmy politician who falls so far down in the dumps that he hires a hit man to kill him (so it's a suicide that will look like a murder). While waiting for his death, he falls in love with a woman he meets on the campaign trail (Halle Berry) and, having nothing to lose, goes for the girl and chucks his smary political image to talk frankly to the voters. He starts spouting politically incorrect, from-the-heart sayings--targeted at everyone from religious groups to Hollywood--rather than soft, scripted speeches. The lesson he learns is that he'd like to live, which sends him on a wild run to stop his assassination. 109 minutes
